In order to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr., Collin College is hosting a breakfast on Saturday in the Living Legends Conference Center at the school’s Plano Campus.
“This year’s Power Leadership Breakfast reminds us that Dr. King’s message of hope and unity is within our reach when we work together,” event co-Chair Albert Tezeno said in a news release from Collin College. “We encourage the community to attend and celebrate the vision of a more loving, just, and equitable world.”
The breakfast will include presentations and student performances honoring the contributions of Martin Luther King Jr.
“I think the breakfast is a great thing to commemorate someone who has played an important part in creating a more perfect union,” AP Government teacher Amanda Peters said. “I believe it’s the fact that MLK is ground breaking in helping to show we can do better. He’s known as the civil right leader that helped shepherd the changing of the garden in the 50s and 60s and is bringing it to the public awareness.”
Junior Reeyana Rahman believes this breakfast is significant in acknowledging an important figure in society.
“MLK is important because he advocates for people who didn’t have the voice to advocate for themselves,” Rahman said. “He made a huge difference in how we live and the way our lives are today.”
