In January, schools and communities across Texas are celebrating School Board Appreciation Month. As part of this celebration, the Redhawks varsity choir, Bella Voce, performed at a recent reception held on Tuesday, Jan. 16th, at the Administration Building.
“We basically had two weeks to prepare so we knew we needed to pick things that we already knew or could learn quickly and that would sound good in that setting,” choir director Toni Ugolini said. “We ended up choosing one song that everyone knew from this year and then bringing back a song from the year before. Students who had learned it previously were responsible for teaching other members of their section and they learned the song super quickly.”
For Bella Voce choir student, Julia Blois, the respect shown towards the arts was a gratifying experience, especially during the performance for board members.
“Seeing first-hand the appreciation and respect shown to the Frisco ISD Fine Arts was very gratifying,” Blois said. “That, along with the opportunity to perform for our board members, was, for me, the most enjoyable aspect of being a part of the ceremony.”
Performing at the school board appreciation was a great experience according to sophomore Zarin Murshed.
“I was honored to know that the FISD school board wanted us to perform for their celebration in thanking the school board trustees,” Murshed said. “Overall it was a great experience and I was thrilled to hear that everyone enjoyed our performances, especially the head of the FISD fine arts.”
Leaving school early is usually just a perk, but for choir students like sophomore Stephanie Okorie, it became a meaningful experience as they actively took part in honoring school board members.
“I felt happy about leaving school early to be able to participate in something as important as honoring the school board members who are the reason the school is even able to run as efficiently as it does,” Okorie said. “Being able to have our choir spotlighted at the ceremony was such a huge honor!”
