The girls of spring took to the field for the first softball game of the 2024 season on Tuesday with the Redhawks falling 8-4 to the Reedy Lions.
“The girls played better than I expected, as far as outcome and score,” assistant coach Tiffany Thayer said. “Reedy is a tough team and we scored better against them this year compared to last, which shows some growth on our end.”
This was disappointing, as it was their first game of the season, but despite the loss, not all was bad on the field Tuesday night.
”I definitely think that we need to work on adjusting to the pitching quicker batting-wise,” junior Delila Bond said. “Defensively, we need to work on eliminating silly mistakes in the field and making sure we’re still communicating. Towards the end of the game we were able to better adjust to the pitchers, we just need to start adjusting earlier in the game.”
The team plays again Thursday, facing Lake Dallas High School, in hopes to bring home their first win of the season.
“We’ll definitely be working on the mental side of the game and being where we are supposed to be for our next game,” Thayer said. “There were a few instances where our girls were in the wrong positions which cost us multiple runs.”
