Taking on Hillcrest on Friday, the Redhawks girls’ basketball team was crowned Area Champions after a 60-21 win over the Panthers.
“I think Friday’s game went very well,” assistant coach MyKaela Alfred said. “I think we executed our defensive gameplan the way that we wanted to. We fell asleep at some times, but we picked it up and we just we followed through and we executed very well. We had a lot of a lot of energy throughout.”
The team will now move on to round three of the state playoffs, taking on the winners of District 9-5A Reedy.
“No, I’m not nervous to play anyone,” junior Aziyah Farrier said. “As long as I’m locked in, then I’m good.”
Both teams enter the game on winning streaks; the Lions having won five straight, and the Redhawks on the hunt for their 17th straight win.
“To beat them we must play as a team and all contribute well,” Farrier said.
