After going 2-3 at the Big Cat Tournament in Commerce Friday and Saturday, the Redhawks softball team is heading into the continuing district season feeling more confident.
“Our tournament was really successful,” head coach Baylea Higgs said. “We got a lot more opportunities to show off our offensive power and we got to see some good situations and overall defense was pretty solid.”
Higgs believes that moving the girls around could have shaken their defense but the Redhawks managed to stay strong and compete.
“We moved some people around, put some people in different defensive spots,” Higgs said. “It wasn’t our set defense. We were just trying to give as many opportunities as we could, but we were still very competitive in every game.”
For senior Jasmine Evanish, this weekend was a success, but still a learning opportunity for growing.
“I think [the tournament] was filled with lots of learning experiences and also a pretty nice opportunity for us to play confidently since it was mainly extra practice for us,” Evanish said. “We could probably still work more on cleaning up plays our ability to take advantage of the pretty strikes we get.”
