The running Redhawks raced to the finish at the Lovejoy Invitational on Saturday with five top three placements and one first place finish.
“The meet was good, we finally had really good weather and I feel like we were really competitive with the teams that were there,” head girls’ coach Khera Vay said. “I think that we had some people rise to the occasion and really go out and compete, but we still have a few pieces of the puzzle that we gotta figure out and work on.”
Vay thinks that going forward in the season, there are many takeaways from this meet for both distance runners and sprinters.
“With my distance kids, we’re working on just finishing either the second lap of the 800 or the third lap of the mile.” she said. “As far as my sprinters go, just them having a little bit more confidence when the distances get long and being able to finish through the line on tough races.”
For freshman Mia Biglia, a mid-distance runner, her goals coming into this meet were achieved and she’s already set new goals for this week’s meet.
“I PR’d on my 800, which I’m really proud of, and I was able to be a strong runner in the 4×400 mentally, which is a goal I set for myself heading into the weekend,” Biglia said. “Going into the next meet, I want to stay positive mentally and not be too hard on myself because it messes up my running.”
