It’s back to District 10-5A play for the Redhawks softball team as they take on the Heritage Coyotes at Heritage High School Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
“I’m anticipating a good win tonight with a lot of hits,” junior Ainslee Palmer said. “We know this pitcher well and we’ve faced her before, so I think we’ll be able to make good adjustments tonight.”
According to Palmer, the team strives to work more offensively in Tuesday’s game, since they haven’t in the past with the Coyotes.
“A team goal we have is to just hit the ball,” Palmer said. “In past games playing Heritage we haven’t, but if we make adjustments and score runs early then I think we’ll win.”
Head coach Baylea Higgs hopes that for this game the team has confidence and has a stronger lead into district play.
“A big goal for us is to play with intensity and play with more confidence,” Higgs said. “It’s not a quantitative goal, but just to execute when we’re put in positions where we need to and play our best.”
The team has been struggling defensively, according to Higgs, and she hopes this game the girls will keep a strong defense against Heritage.
“Defense was a struggle this pre-season and over the course of the tournaments and the first district game, I look to see some defensive improvements,” she said. “Also our situational hitting, really being able to put bats down and string our hits when we have runners on base.”
