The computer science class is about more than coding as it can also be a way to create digital art and games.
Instead of writing programs to solve arithmetic problems, students of the Honors Computer Science class use their knowledge of the coding language to generate basic images.
“It’s not something we test over but they use it a lot in CSA so if they move up it’s a really good skill to kinda have a foundation for,” teacher Alexa Hamilton said. “It’s, I think, really interesting. It’s one of the harder things we do throughout the year but it really keeps everybody motivated to see like what they could do.”
Students use a programming language called JAVA to learn and deepen their understanding of the coding process.
“I think it added more layer to our JAVA like previously we just dealt with more simple things like more text based,” freshman Calvin Jonk said. “But when we did draw, we could like develop our learning of JAVA with adding graphics into it and adding color into different things like that.”
