Wingspan: How did you discover your passion for ballet?
Janparian: “I discovered my passion for ballet when I went to the Nutcracker and fell in love with every aspect of it. I really loved the dresses and precision, and it was then that I discovered my passion. .”
Wingspan: Who inspired you to do ballet?
Janparian: “There’s not a specific person who inspired me overall the dance teachers I’ve had thorough my life are what kept my passion for ballet so strong and on going .”
Wingspan: Do you plan on pursuing ballet in the future or continuing after high school?
Janparian: “Although I love dancing and ballet in general I don’t plan on pursuing a carrer focused on ballet in the future but I would love to keep it as a hobby on the side.”
Wingspan: What are some challenges about ballet?
Janparian: “Some challenges about ballet would definitely be remembering to have precision and technique at all times, meaning that your toes should always be pointed, keeping your arms nicely rounded, and more .”
Wingspan: What is your favorite part of ballet?
Janparian: “My favorite part about ballet is definitely the community, friends, and teaches however, in the dance itself, my favorite part would be the lifts and pirouettes.”
Wingspan: Which ballerina inspires you most?
Janparian: “A ballerina who inspires me is Misty Copeland, who was the first African American female principal dancer. To me, she represents strength, empowerment, as she broke through stereotypes and changed the world of dance.”
Wingspan: What is your favorite memory in ballet?
Janparian: “My favorite ballet memory would be backstage with all my friends, when we warm up, do our rituals, fix each other’s hair, and run the dances. I remember one time right before going on stage I got water all over my costume but luckily my friends and I were able to dry it just on time, I feel like that stayed as a really valuable memory to me.”
