Wingspan: Have you qualified for the state meet before?
Wilkins: “No, I have never qualified for the state track meet.”
Wingspan: What was your initial reaction when you found out that you would be advancing to the state meet?
Wilkins: “I was super excited because I think the state track meet will be a really fun experience and a great way to end my senior year.”
Wingspan: What (if anything) do you believe separates athletes who make the state meet from the rest of the field?
Wilkins: “I think that all athletes that had the opportunity to qualify for state at the regional meet have the hard work and dedication to succeed. I think it comes down to how athletes that perform under pressure that separates the state qualifying athletes from others.”
Wingspan: What are your goals for the state meet, and how are you preparing to meet them?
Wilkins: “My goals are simply to perform at my best ability and push myself to PR. I have had a set practice plan this last week and a half and focused on recovery.”
Wingspan: Is there anything that makes your event at state (the 3200m run) more challenging than other events? How are you planning to address this?
Wilkins: “I am competing in the 3200m or the two mile race. This is the longest race at the state track meet, so in the end it comes down to who is the most conditioned athlete.”
Wingspan: What are you the most excited and most nervous about as far as the state meet is concerned?
Wilkins: “I am excited to visit Austin, especially because I am running track and XC at the University of Texas next fall. I am nervous just because of how competitive and fast the race will be.”
