I am a huge fan of horror content. I’m always up for sitting down with my family and/or friends and watching a good horror movie. This genre of movies is so fun to watch and get into.
Some people are not as scared of horror movies as others. I’ve watched some pretty good horror movies before such as The Strangers, Us, Paranormal Activity, Evil Dead Rise, etc. You either love horror movies and love getting scared, love horror movies but not necessarily get scared, and some might get scared and prefer not to watch them. Or you might just find them boring, who knows.
For me, I love watching horror movies just because I love the spooky and eerie vibes that fill the room when I watch them. However, I don’t necessarily get super scared when I watch them. I don’t feel my heart rate rise or feel my hands sweat.
I simply love horror movies and appreciate them as a genre. I’ll be happy to watch any kind of movie that has a bit of gore or thrill, and simply enjoy the mood that the movie carries without having to feel scared knowing that it’s just a movie.
Strangely, horror games are a different story. If it’s playing a horror game or watching someone play it on the internet, it’s different.
Yes, I like scary and spooky things. Yes, I like my fair share of paranormal or spine-chilling content. But why do I get more scared of horror games than I do with horror movies?
With games, it feels more like you’re in that scenario. You feel like you are the character. That’s the big difference between horror games and horror movies. In movies, the situation plays out, and you watch the characters go about their lives and try to get out of that strange situation that they’ve gotten themselves into.
In games, you have to move the character yourself. You’re on the edge of your seat, heart pumping fast and hard, hands sweating, and intense focus, waiting for that dreadful jump scare that waits around the corner. You’re the one that has to keep it going, because you are basically in the game itself.
I want to get into more horror games and try more of them out. I know the game isn’t real, and I know it’s all just for fun. But isn’t that the same situation with horror movies? It’s strangely confusing.
I’ll be asking myself this question dozens of times. Why enjoy just horror movies when games are also on the table? The games are a treat, but that treat still has a spicy center that I can’t seem to just man up and try anyway.
