Frisco ISD families and staff can receive flu vaccinations at the district’s onsite clinics starting Aug.26 with a visit to The Nest on Sept. 12.
“All the schools have the flu shot clinics,” school nurse Carolina Craft said “The more people who get vaccinated for the flu, the less flu we have. It’s a convenient place for everyone. They come out and offer flu shots for the staff plus other vaccines for FISD staff and their families and for the community and their families.”
For senior Riya Sharma, the flu shot clinic is a way for FISD families and staff to remember to get vaccinated.
“The clinics help families remember about getting flu shots and also it’s really closer in proximity than some hospitals or other clinics,” Sharma said. “It’s an easy way for students to be reminded, especially in high school. Especially since flu spreads around school by kids getting it and then their whole class getting it, these clinics are a preventative measure to keep that from happening.”
The accessibility of the flu shot clinics to get the flu vaccine is appealing for senior Irene Na.
“The flu shot clinics are accessible to various people all around Frisco ISD and since there are so many locations for the clinics, a lot more people can get their flu shot close by without having to drive farther or somewhere else to get their flu shot,” senior Irene Na said. “This benefits their health because flu season is coming and it benefits their immunity.”
Craft encourages students, staff, and their families to get immunized to prevent the spread of flu related absences on campus.
“The flu vaccine contains all the strains they think are pertinent this year so it’ll help prevent the spread of flu,” Craft said. “No flu means less time off of school and less time off of work.”
