Over the course of the fall semester, the Theatre Productions class will be working on a student directed and produced show of 101 Dalmatians Junior to promote theater to elementary and middle school students.
The process began last week for this small musical, first by the selection of a student director, Aparajitha Srinivasan, and stage manager, followed by singing and dancing auditions for the actors.
“It is very different to be a director compared to an actor or technician, outside of just the obvious,” senior Aparajitha Srinivasan said. “It is hard to realize the attention to detail that directors have to put into shows until you try directing one yourself.”
Sophomore Analise Serna hopes this tour will inspire young minds to consider pursuing theater.
“This show is being performed for kids who may not have yet discovered their love for theater,” Serna said. “I’d love to be partly responsible for inspiring a young actors passion”
Although performing on the stage in front of a crowd may be the end goal, for junior Gigi Scroggins rehearsals are the best part of the process.
“My favorite part about rehearsal so far would be starting to block the scenes,” Scroggins said. “[This is] because you start to see how the show comes together.”
Similarly, Srinivasan finds the process of putting together the production particularly exciting.
“It’s also very exciting to have an opportunity to create in another perspective,” Srinivasan said. “I have found it very fun so far to work with the songs together as a class, and seeing possibilities of choreography and blocking (staging).”
