Football kicks off their season Friday at The Star with a match-up as they take on their rivals Lebanon Trail at 7 p.m.
“Everybody’s excited,” head football coach Matt Swinnea said. “It’s always a long time from the end of one season to the start of another and you put so much work into going into it, not just the spring but the summer, and so everybody is excited.”
The rivalry comes from Fowler Middle School, as students who attend Fowler get split between Liberty and Lebanon Trail. Now old friends are coming together to watch the game.
“No, I am not nervous for the first game because I know the work we have put in the last eight months,” starting quarterback, junior Khi Bunting, said. “I expect us to accomplish a lot of different things but our main priority is beating them.”
Having won their last two preseason scrimmages, the Redhawks hope to continue that momentum Friday. However, the past two seasons the Redhawks have lost to the Trailblazers.
“We’ve done a lot of good things,” Swinnea said. “We’re not very deep but that just means everybody’s got to jump in and play a role. You just gotta relax, breathe, and do your job.”
