Band is excited to give their audience a sneak preview of the show they’ve been working on during Homecoming week, with the full show set to debut on September 26th when football plays Independence.
The show, titled Padma, which means Lotus Flower, is inspired by a powerful quote: “The lotus flower is a reminder of the beauty that comes from change, the magic that a new beginning brings and the seed of potential that’s buried in the most unlikely places” – Jennifer Williamson
To new band director Ana Hinojosa Santi, Padma reflects the journey of growth and adaptation that she and the band members are experiencing.
“Me being new to the program, I know there will be some adjustment times not just with students, but with staff,” Hinojosa said. “The lotus flower must travel through murky waters which represents the adjustment period but at the end, we will bloom as a program.”
The band is working to bring Padma to life. Sophomore Skylar Hubert expressed gratitude for the guidance of her directors.
“As a band member I’ve been prepared because Mrs. Hinojosa and Ms. Yoakam have both been guiding us through our show bit by bit and making sure that we understand things and it’s really helpful and they are both great at what they do,” Hubert said.
Another anticipated aspect of the band show is colorguard’s performance; who like band, have also been preparing. For junior Alex James, this preparation has included dedicating hours both inside and outside of school to perfect her performance.
“To prepare for the show, I’ve been practicing daily after work whenever I can,” James said. “Our director, Mr. Mills, ensures we’re well-prepared by leading focused rehearsals. During these sessions, we not only run through choreography but also work on tosses and other techniques that will make our performance better.”
