The Counseling Department sent out an email on Tuesday to students regarding leadership opportunities both in Frisco and the state.
A big part about college application can be filling in the line with extracurricular activities, and some students view leadership opportunities as the most important to pursue.
“I always hear from my friends and people at school that you need to be a leader of something to be considered for competitive colleges,” senior Sophia Hung said. “For some people, it can be really hard to find their niche and therefore something to lead in.”
Some of the opportunities given are limited to certain grade levels. For example, Texas Girls State, Texas Boys State, and the CoServ Youth Leadership Tour are only open to juniors. However the Mayor’s Youth Council is open to both seniors and juniors.
“It’s hard juggling all of the school work, senior year things, and extracurriculars so it’s nice that the counseling department does these things for the students,” senior Addison LeBlanc said. “Some of them I might be too late for but I’m sure the younger kids can take advantage of them.”
However, the focal part of this announcement was the LHS Leadership Camp application which students must be nominated for.
“We definitely need some good leaders among the students,” Hung said. “I’m hoping my younger friends take advantage of them, especially my younger brother.”
