Students attended a panel in the auditorium during advisory on Wednesday in which they heard from recent graduates that have attended HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities).
“There was a panel of alumni from HBCUs that were there to answer questions that are already scripted and answer questions from students,” College and Career Counselor Cher’ron Jones said. “There were questions such as: why did they choose a HBCU? What was the benefit? What inspired them to attend an HBCU?How was the transition of attending an HBCU? How did they feel supported professionally and personally at their HBCU?, etc.”
12 universities were represented and topics such as benefits, support, and making an informed decision were discussed helping sophomore Kyron France broaden his college considerations.
“I went to the HBCU meeting because I want to explore my options for colleges, especially ones that are rooted deep in history,” France. “I believe that this meeting was very beneficial to me as a student because I learned about all the wonderful things and experiences at HBCUs from students who attend now, which will further help me when I start to apply to colleges.”
