Wingspan: When and why did you start playing tennis?
Chinwan: “I started playing tennis when I was 12 years old during Covid because I was really bored and my parents wouldn’t let me play club soccer and go to taekwondo. So I became interested in learning how to play tennis with my dad who taught me.”
Wingspan: What is your favorite part about playing tennis?
Chinwan: “My favorite part about tennis is obviously competing against others and the overall thrill of playing the sport in general.”
Wingspan: Who is your biggest supporter?
Chinwan: “My biggest supporters are my family because they always push me to do better and believe in me. My success is ultimately theirs.”
Wingspan: What motivates you when you do not play how you had hoped?
Chinwan: “When I have a setback, I usually write about it in my tennis journal so I can reflect on my mistakes and what I could have done better in order to improve my game and get better. This forces me to work harder on my errors during practice so I can consistently modify and refine my playing style and shot selection.”
Wingspan: Do you like singles or doubles better and why?
Chinwan: “I definitely prefer singles over doubles because it’s so exciting to have an intense rally back and forth with your opponent. And the feeling you get when you win that point is just so much more special since you worked hard by yourself instead of also depending on your partner like in doubles.”
Wingspan: What do you hope to accomplish this season?
Chinwan: “I hope to do well as a team during the playoffs and do well in districts during the spring.”
Wingspan: Do you plan to continue playing tennis after high school?
Chinwan: “I plan on continuing to play tennis in the future after high school but it’s also super competitive. I’ll have to work extra hard these next two years to get recruited for at least D2.”
