Cross country’s district meet isn’t until Oct. 10, but on Saturday the teams get a preview of what is ahead of them at Saturday’s Lovejoy Invitational at Myers Park.
“I’m excited, Lovejoy is another meet that’s going to have some great competition for us,” boys’ head coach Robbie Thayer said. “We’re going to get to run the course that our district meet is hosted at so getting that experience on that land is going to be really good for our athletes.”
With Saturday’s meet the same course as the district meet, senior Aleyah Davila is expecting the team to go all out.
“This meet is our district course so it’s a sneak peek of that so it’s more important that we see what and how we do now for districts later,” senior Aleyah Davila said. “Since this meet is a district preview everyone is hoping to go out and run their best race on this course.”
Easing off on the intensity in practice, Thayer thinks it may pay dividends on Saturday.
“I think we are in a position to see some time drops,” Thayer said. “I know we’re cutting back a little on our mileage this week and the intensity this week so we should have some fresher legs. I’m interested to see the time drop that some of us might have with fresher legs.”
The reduction in mileage and intensity has the runners hopeful of improving their times
“I feel ready for this one, I’m hoping to get sub twenty on it but I don’t really know,” sophomore Mac Sedwick said. “We had an easier week so I hope I can do that.”
