Wingspan: When and why did you start running cross country?
Ward: “I joined cross country in seventh grade at Vandeventer because I wanted to try a new sport.”
Wingspan: What is your favorite part about running cross country?
Ward: “My favorite part of cross country is the team aspect and getting to meet a bunch of people I wouldn’t normally meet.”
Wingspan: What is the toughest part about running?
Ward: “The toughest part is definitely the workouts and staying focused and motivated when I run a bad race or when I get injured and can’t run.”
Wingspan: How do you stay in shape all year, especially in the off season?
Ward: “I stay in shape thanks to Coach Vay and Thayer. They both do a really good job creating good workouts and I try my best to eat healthy.
Wingspan: Who is your biggest supporter?
Ward: “Other than my family, Coach Vay and my teammates that have graduated are probably my biggest supporters because they’re always checking up on how the seasons are going even after they graduated.”
Wingspan: What are your goals for this season?
Ward: “My goals for the season is to first place top two as a team at districts and to make state.”
Wingspan: Do you plan on continuing cross country in college?
Ward: “I do not plan on running collegiately but I do plan on running for fun in college maybe a few times a week to stay in shape and because it has always been something that I’ve enjoyed.”
