Henrik is one of the few artists to showcase a unique transition from pop-rock to harnesses that folksong feel, or as he calls it – “south jersey music”, with raw guitar and authentic vocals. He is fairly new to the music scene, as his first album, i get lonely sxometimes!, debuted in 2021. He released his second album POSTER CHILD the year after.
He first emerged on TikTok in 2019, where he garnered over 18 million views on his videos. Following this online attention, he began releasing his music on Spotify. Henrik, who is in his early twenties, initially created songs more along the lines of punk rock and pop. These songs feature heavy bass in the background, Henrik’s signature guitar, and various sounds overlaid to harness that rock feel.
i get lonely sometimes! is actually a Christian album and explores Henrik’s own relationship with his religious journey. However, he does so in a way contrary to most traditional Christian music, but his unique style of discussing religion has made this album popular among young Christians. Beside simply exploring his relationship with God, this album also details Henrik’s relationship with others and struggles with mental health. Some of the songs are more laidback (“REAL LOVE”) and don’t contain as much heavy electric guitar but still harness that 90’s punk rock feel.
POSTER CHILD continues Henrik’s rock era, including even more electric guitar, heavy bass, and lots of drums. He continues to narrate his growth in his relationship with God, and how it affects his mental health. This album addresses issues such as comparison, self-image, depression, loneliness, and alcoholism. A couple of the songs are more similar to Henrik’s later work and rely more on softer vocals and acoustic guitar.
Since switching to more folksong-type releases, Henrik hasn’t actually dropped an album but rather a series of singles with hand-drawn album covers. These songs are a wild contrast from Henrik’s earlier style, with a much simpler layout relying mainly on acoustic guitar. While he still uses his powerful voices for a few key moments in each song, the vocals of these singles are a lot softer than his rock songs. He has produced some Christian songs in this folk style, but these singles are mainly about relationships – both romantic and platonic. These later songs also contain more collabs, featuring LOGE, gio., GRAHAM, Josiah Queen, and Nic D.
