DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) is holding its first kick-off meeting Tuesday during advisory in the auditorium.
“This [meeting] is a general kickoff meeting where interested individuals will get an idea of what DECA is and how they can be involved regardless of whether they meet competition requirements,” senior and co-president Anvi Saxena said.
Attendance at the meeting is something teacher and club advisor Demas Lamas encourages so that all DECA members can learn about procedure changes.
“DECA offers real-world experiences through competitions that mirror actual business scenarios,” Lamas said. “For both returning and new members interested in learning about the business community, it is important to attend the meeting and listen to any changes to stay informed.”
With the first meeting of the school year, new members are eager to learn and get involved in the organization. Junior Rupal Shirpurkar is one of those students planning to attend the meeting to gather more information and potentially join DECA.
“I’m going to the meeting during advisory because I want to learn more about what DECA is,” Shirpurkar said. “A lot of my friends are involved in the organization, and I want to see if DECA is something I would like to be a part of.”
