The pieces have been practiced, the notes fine-tuned, and orchestra will be performing their annual fall concert on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium.
“We are going early this year, but we had a lot of fun preparing and doing some new work, sitting in fun arrangements in class,” orchestra director Julie Blackstock said. “Obviously we have a new orchestra director this year with Mr. (Brandon) Lucio, so I’m really looking forward to showcasing our students.”
Blackstock hopes that the students are prepping for the concert which features the songs Finale in D, In the Company of Angels, and Waltz of the Wicked.
“We do not have a theme for the pieces or the concert, It is simply the fall concert,” Blackstock said. “Mr. Lucio and I look through many pieces and have the orchestra sight read them, then we pick selections from that to be our program. It varies on difficulty levels, tempos, and genres.”
Through various seating arrangements and additional assessments, students such as freshman Lakshmi Kamma have been putting in extra effort to prepare for the concert.
“We’ve been like going over the hard parts, practicing to like listening across the section so all of us are playing along with each other,” Kamma said. “We’re also practicing with the metronome which helps us keep on being as well which all these help us make good music.”
Alongside class time preparations, freshman Chloe Kim has been practicing for the concert at home.
“I feel prepared because I’ve been practicing at home every day,” Kim said. “The concert is in a few weeks so I think I have time to finish what parts that I’m not really good at playing. I’ve been practicing at home every day for at least 20 minutes and going over my music and each part of what I need to focus on.”
