Frisco ISD students have the opportunity to apply for the Frisco Mayor’s Youth Council, a leadership program aimed at fostering engagement in local government.
“The Frisco Mayor’s Youth Program develops our future leaders. We meet monthly with various department heads, the mayor, and City Council members to see what it takes to run a city,” City of Frisco administrative assistant Holly McCall said. “The goal is to encourage students to engage with their local government, whether by considering a career in public service or simply voting in future local elections.”
A returning member of the Frisco Mayor’s Youth Council, senior Ashvita Suresh Kumar, emphasizes the value of networking and learning from professionals.
“It’s a great opportunity to connect with the local government, but also to meet people in different professions,” Kumar said. “Our project focused on creating more youth-centered events to help them connect with one another.”
Being able to engage with city officials is part of the Frisco Mayor’s Youth Council.
“In the Frisco Mayor’s Youth Council, we work with city officials to voice the concerns of the youth in our community and create activities that build leadership skills,” Kumar said.
Tanisha Jhaveri, a senior, highlights her passion for community involvement and collaboration with local leaders as driving factors behind her decision to join the council.
“I wanted to make a positive impact in my community and work with local leaders to share young ideas and concerns,” Jhaveri said.“There isn’t that much greenery in Frisco, and I believe adding more green spaces is essential for community well-being.”
