As the Panic! At the Disco lyric goes, you have to have “high, high hopes for a living.” Unfortunately, those hopes did not pan out for the football team (0-5), as the Walnut Grove Wildcats (6-0) handed them a 64-7 defeat in Prosper on Thursday.
“Defensively we did a poor job of being aggressive versus their lateral screen game,” head coach Matt Swinnea said. “Tackling in general was not good. Offensively, we need to do a better job of staying on blocks in the run game.”
However, according to Swinnea, their were some bright spots in the game for the Redhawks.
“We were able to make some big plays in the passing game early, which was helpful,” Swinnea said. “Also, we had put a lot of emphasis on punt protection and coverage and we were much better in that regard.”
Senior Landon Reygadas believes the reputation of Walnut Grove preceded them a little bit and may have factored into the game.
“We knew coming into the game Walnut Grove was a good team,” Reygadas said. “We saw what they did to Memorial the week before and I think we just got in our heads.”
