Frank Ocean is one of the most popular musical artists in the world, with over nearly 40 million monthly listeners on Spotify. With quite an extensive discography, I sometimes have trouble remembering which of his songs I like and which I don’t. Whether it comes up in conversation or I’m just putting on some music, keeping a running list of my personal favorites, and the ones I don’t like so much, can come in handy.
The three categories I separated this list with are All Time Favorite, Favorite Features, and Least Favorite.
All Time Favorite
These are songs I don’t think I could live without. These are what I think makes Frank Ocean untouchable. Nights, Pink Matter, Swim Good, Crack Rock, and Pyramids, specifically the second part of the song, are listed in this category. His songwriting, his vocals, and the creative production on these songs is what makes it one a masterpiece.
Favorite Features
Although Frank Ocean hasn’t released music of his own in almost eight years, he has collaborated with several artists since. In my opinion, he elevates any song he is featured on. My favorite of his features are Superpower and Slide.
Least Favorite
The songs in this portion of the list are the ones I skip every time they come on. The only two I have listed are Lost and Novacane. I largely blame TikTok for my dislike of these songs, and the fact that they are just overplayed. Something about both of these songs I just find quite annoying. Although these two are not my favorite, it can be difficult to find something to dislike about Frank Ocean’s music.
As a pioneer in R&B and one of the most popular artists in the genre, Frank Ocean’s music will always have a place in my heart, and in my notes app.
