Wingspan: What are your favorite parts of being part of our school’s theatre department?
Desai: “I love theatre because I’m never restricted to one task. There are so many processes involved in improving a role, and it feels great when the pieces start to come together. I also love interacting with thespians outside of Liberty and exchanging ideas about our departments and productions.”
Wingspan: Can you share one of your favorite memories related to theatre?
Desai: “In my freshman year, I volunteered for the Middle School OAP UIL. Seeing the middle schoolers’ excitement to compete further strengthened my love for theatre and convinced me to become an officer.”
Wingspan: What is your favorite character/role you played?
Desai: “My favorite role is Ponyboy from The Outsiders. With that role, I felt I was able to showcase so many different parts of the character and ultimately produce an amazing show.”
Wingspan: What’s a dream role you hope to play one day?
Desai: “My dream role would be Elder Price from the Book of Mormon. That was one of the shows that led me to theatre, and I think that would be a really fun role to play.”
Wingspan: What do you think makes a great performance or production stand out?
Desai: “One of the most enjoyable parts of watching theatre is being able to see yourself in the characters. The best shows are able to present characters and relationships realistically and with complexity.”
Wingspan: What are some goals you have for yourself with regards to performing/being part of theatre in general?
Desai: “I want to help other thespians enjoy theatre as much as I do. For me, theatre has been an outlet where I can put on productions with people I love to be with. I think there are a lot of people that would benefit from the same experiences.”
