Having to go to the treatment center so often, I have grown to know my nurses. I see them so often and it is always the same two girls. Many times, we chit-chat about things to pass the time. Not just know them but a true genuine friendship has come out of it.
They know about my upcoming events and relationships and have even helped me with schoolwork. I have a great appreciation for people like them. They help take my mind off of my disease and the sometimes bothersome treatment.
Being a nurse doesn’t mean they have to do that. They could hook me up to my IV and continue on with other work they might have. However, being the kind people they are, they always stay by me. I truly am grateful for them.
The people we surround ourselves with can help us through our darkest times. By the luck of the draw the people I am constantly with at the hospital are the best.
Next week I will touch on self-advocacy with my disease. I can’t wait to continue to share my story with you! Remember our struggles don’t define us.
