Evan Boult is a new teacher on campus that teaches World Geography and coaches football, which he played throughout high school and college. He’s spending his 11th year of schooling at The Nest and hopes to give his students a good high school experience.
Wingspan: How does it feel to be a part of the Redhawks so far?
Boultt: “Love it. I love the kids, the culture here is amazing. I really couldn’t have asked for a better place to be.”
Wingspan: What made you want to come to The Nest?
Boultt: “You know what, I’ve always heard that the people are amazing here. The school and the administration are really great. And the kids, so you know it’s all really true so, I’m really happy to be here.”
Wingspan: What are some of your favorite traditions for the first day of school?
Boultt: “Ooh, my best traditions for the first day of school are probably just, you know. I don’t really know if you call it a tradition, but getting to know the kids, knowing the backgrounds. Trying to understand that everyone has their own story, and it’s not really the first day but getting to know them throughout the year is just, is really great. That’s what I love about teaching. That’s why I’m a teacher. Just because, you get to know so many people and build relationships with people.”
Wingspan: What’s your favorite dish from the cafeteria?
Boultt: “I haven’t ate in the cafeteria in a long time, but I do remember the pizzas I used to eat. Those were top-notch.”
Wingspan: Did you always teach high school or have you ever taught middle or elementary school?
Boultt: “There was one year where I taught junior high, and I quickly knew that that wasn’t for me, so after that, it was high school all the way.”
Wingspan: Did you ever teach college?
Boultt: “I never taught college. That is not my thing.”
Wingspan: Yeah! What did you want to be when you were younger, and how did that change as you grew up?
Boultt: “To be honest with you, I wanted to be an astronaut, but when I quickly figured out I wasn’t that great at math, I knew I wanted to be a football coach. It’s always been, I knew I wanted to be in athletics. I give back to what my coaches gave to me. So this is why I’m in it to help kids, be around kids, and you know give back.
Wingspan: Did you ever dream of making it big in football?
Boultt: “Of course! Of course I dreamed of making it big, but when I figured out I was only gonna be 5’9, that quickly changed. I wasn’t tall enough, but this is the next best thing.”
Wingspan: What was the best part of your high school and what is your advice for high school students now?
Boultt: “Best part of high school was football for sure. Advice I would give would be don’t take anything for granted, it’s not gonna last forever. You’ll look back at it one day and know it was some of the best times of your life.”
Wingspan: What college did you go to? And what was your favorite part of it?
Boultt: “I went to Texas Christian University. Go Frogs! My favorite part of it definitely had to be football games. Just, you know, my friends that I rushed with in college so that was pretty awesome.”
Wingspan: Yeah. What type of dreams and expectations do you have for your students?
Boultt: “My job is to help them just become really good citizens of society, and you know, if I’ve done that, then I’ve done my job. Getting to college is great, it’s wonderful, but you know what. I also want them to be good husbands, good wives, you know, help them along that way and if I’ve done that at any point, then I’ve done my job.”
