Wingspan: Did you participate in any sports growing up? If you did, when did you start and what made you want to?
Moore: “I started playing baseball when I was four years old and basketball when I was in fifth grade. My parents and just watching baseball on TV made me want to start. I was basically born with a glove on my hand.”
Wingspan: When you were growing up, did you expect that you would become a coach as an adult?
Moore: “I did not. In fact, I used to say this was the one job I would never do.”
Wingspan: What motivated you to pursue coaching and coaching your sport specifically?
Moore: “My passion for the game of baseball and instilling that passion in athletes is why I coach. Being able to look back at all the coaches who had an impact on me growing up and just wanting to be that same role model for kids today.”
Wingspan: What are your favorite and least favorite parts about being a coach for your specific sport? Why?
Moore: “My favorite part is getting to be around our baseball players. It is a fun group to be around, and they always know how to enjoy their time together. My least favorite is the time spent away from my family. It is definitely hard missing my daughter’s softball game when we have games or practices.”
Wingspan: What is something that most people don’t know about coaching in general or coaching your specific sport?
Moore: “I’m not sure people truly understand all the little things that we put a major emphasis on in baseball. We take pride in doing the little things right and that’s what separates us from other programs in the area.”
Wingspan: If you could coach or participate in another sport besides the one you currently do, what would it be and why?
Moore: “Golf 100 percent. Get me out on PGA Frisco.”
Wingspan: What is the most inspiring student athlete moment you have witnessed as a coach?
Moore: “Watching our team come together after losing the first game in the playoffs to Frisco and win the next two games to knock off a favorite to make the state tournament. Also got to experience it two different rounds when I was at Independence.”
Wingspan: What advice do you have for student athletes?
Moore: “Buy into the weight room and be where your feet are. Every single coach on this campus would do just about anything to have 1 more day playing their sport and the athletes on campus will have the same mindset before they know it so enjoy it while you still can!”
