Name: Aashi Oswal
Grade: 12
Years of experience: 4 years
Wingspan: What made you join Red Rhythm?
Oswal: “I wanted to join because I had taken dance my freshman year of high school and I was really excited and interested in a field of dance I’d never done before, especially the drill team where we do a lot of high kicks and different types of American jazz and hip-hop.”
Wingspan: What is your favorite dance and why?
Oswal: “My favorite dance is hip-hop. In the past two years, we have done a lot of hip hop competing at contests and in pep rallies. I really enjoy hip hop because it gives us creative freedom and the choice to express ourselves through dance. I really think we have succeeded in hip-hop and the style.”
Wingspan: What is your favorite aspect of Red Rhythm?
Oswal: “My favorite part of them is honestly the people and the community of the team. Since we all dance together, we have a shared experience. But, we are also a family. We go to games together and we learn to dance together and it’s like just a second family. I really enjoy the community aspect such as the directors, the managers, the officers, the members. All of it is very wholesome.”
Wingspan: What has been your favorite memory of Red Rhythm so far?
Oswal: “My favorite memory is probably when we competed at a contest last year and we won first place and everything. We had sweepstakes for the officer line and for a team that was a huge thing winning the entire contest. That was probably your favorite memory cause we worked so hard for that moment to see it pay off was really incredible.”
Wingspan: Will you continue to dance in the future? Why or why not?
Oswal: “Yes, I plan to do dance in college, but I plan to pursue dancing in college with hip-hop and Bollywood fusion mix. I really really enjoy the dance and experience I’ve taken from drill team and I plan to use those skills and the time management and the work at it and apply to hopefully any sort of college future dance team I plan to be one.”
