I get this question a lot, “Do people ever not want to be around you because of your disease?” This question holds most true when the topic of dating is brought up. Luckily, in my scenarios, I have found the answer to this question to be: no!
In my experience, the boys I have dated have been very supportive and helpful during my times of need. Obviously, the conversation first letting them know is always scary. Because it is a huge part of me, part of who I am, it should be addressed.
Someone who truly cares about you will not discriminate or judge and will like you for all your flaws. Even if that means helping remind me to take my medicine, taking an extra second for me to become less dizzy, finding me water, etc. Someone who cares will be willing to go the distance. I know I have said that before, and it’s the title of my column, but your struggles should not define you.
Next week I will touch on my new treatment plan. I can’t wait to continue to share my story with you! Remember our struggles don’t define us.
