While my 18th birthday was a great day and an exciting monument, I did not really feel like an adult. That was until I had my next round of treatment, which I could now go to myself, and was met with tons and tons of paperwork.
I walked into the hospital first excited to get to go by myself I felt like an adult. However when I went to my normal lady to check in she passed me multiple forms. I would first have to decide if I wanted to release my information to my parents, as being 18 I now have to give the hospital permission to keep them in the loop. I did so, and this also helps with payment and scheduling. Then I had to create an account and give my parents access to my patient portal. I also had to sign off on my treatment that day.
While it might not seem like a lot it was a pretty long process and one of the first things I really had to do now as an adult. I will continue to be able to go alone to the hospital and schedule my own appointments now.
Next week I will touch on the side effects of my new treatments. I can’t wait to continue to share my story with you! Remember our struggles don’t define us.
