Featuring a wide variety of festive music, orchestra is wrapping up the semester with their winter concert on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium.
“Our winter concert is usually something with more festive music,” assistant director Brandon Lucio said. “We’ve been preparing classes as usual just as we’ve been doing the fall concert. We put more of an emphasis on reflecting what went well and what did go well in the fall concert and we tried to fix those things for the winter concert.”
With winter break right around the corner, the winter concert features many holiday pieces such as the Charlie Brown Christmas theme and Silent Night.
“My favorite part of the winter concert is its winter spirit,” senior Sathvik Yechuri said. “Each piece played by the orchestras has a warm and fuzzy feeling, like that of being huddled up in front of a fireplace during the freezing cold weather of December.”
Students are welcomed to wear holiday attire during their prices, potentially adding to the festive spirit.
“The cheerful melody and shared enthusiasm among the orchestra always make it a highlight of the season,” senior Nolan Sow said. “We also can make festive additions to our performance black attire, such as reindeer and Santa hats, making it very fun.”
For the last performance on the program, a guest conductor will lead the annual performance of Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson, featuring band, the top two orchestras, and the seniors in the orchestra program.
“Since freshman year, I’ve loved listening to this piece, and now I’m so excited I get to play it in my last winter concert at Liberty,” Yechuri said. “I was already blown away by what we played in our full orchestra rehearsal last week, so I can’t wait to be part of the actual performance.”
