Name: Abhishek Sriram
Grade: 10
Fine Art: photography
Years of experience: 7
Wingspan: How did you get started with photography?
Sriram: “My mom always has had a passion for photography. Whenever she would take pictures of the Milky Way or the night sky, I would almost shadow her and aspire to take photos like that. I started using her camera early and got attached to photography.”
Wingspan: What’s your favorite part of the photography process? Why?
Sriram: “My favorite part would be being able to capture things live in action in various places, from football games to homecoming photoshoots to taking pictures of mountains in Colorado.”
Wingspan: How have your photography skills evolved over the years?
Sriram: “Over the years, I have developed more advanced photography techniques, learned how to use more advanced equipment, and developed an eye for the perfect shot and angle of a photo.”
Wingspan: What are your photography goals for the future?
Sriram: “I want to continue being in the yearbook throughout the rest of high school and in college so I can continue having an opportunity to take photos daily. I’ve also started a photography business, Abhishek’s Photography, hoping people hire me for small photoshoots (prom, HoCo, senior graduation pictures).”
Wingspan: If you could give any piece of advice to a new photographer, what would it be?
Sriram: “I would tell a new photographer to take things slow. Start by taking pics of basic things and using basic equipment. Don’t feel pressured to buy expensive equipment; be patient with how long it takes to develop good pictures. Photography is a mix of science and art, and developing the skill takes a lot of practice.”
