The boys’ basketball team had high expectations heading into their games over winter break, but ultimately had to settle for mixed results. After a 56-51 loss to Heritage, the Redhawks claimed their first victory in District 11-5A with a 68-52 win against Independence and defeated Highland Park 44-42 in a non-conference game. They are now 1-2 in district play and in a three-way tie with Memorial and Frisco for second place in the standings
The team looks to extend their new winning streak as they continue district play with a trip to Memorial, with the Redhawks facing the Warriors Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
With the teams on nearly identical footing, assistant coach Robert Wilson is expecting a good game.
“The biggest takeaway from our last three district games is just that we can play with anyone in the district,” Wilson said. “Our individual goal against Memorial is to maintain ball security. They’re a full court pressure team, and if we can limit our turnovers to under 15, we’ll put ourselves in a good position to be successful with our size and ability.”
Junior power forward Gilbert Aluga is likewise expecting another win for the Redhawks.
“We’re extremely confident,” Aluga said. “We know how well we’re capable of playing and we’re ready to go out there and show it.”
