The girls basketball team (10-1) played Heritage at home (7-4) Friday, securing a 40-29 win and keeping second place in District 11-5A. Hoping to continue their five-game winning streak, the team faces Independence on the road Tuesday at 5:45 p.m.
“We’ve just been cleaning up some of our main things that we do and working on some different defensive strategies this week,” assistant coach Jayci Morton said
“[What helped us win was] doing all of our defensive assignments correctly, knowing when to drop in the post and scramble out,” senior Natalia Soto said.
For senior Kathryn Murphy, working on the team’s press is essential to securing the win against Independence.
“Some things that we’re trying to work on to prepare us are our press,” Murphy said. “Getting that down and looking at different looks within our press, while also being on the flip side, being pressed and being able to handle pressure. Also working on some of those little things like having good stable defense, talking, communicating with our teammates, and moving the ball around well.”
