With planning for the 2025-2026 FISD Livestock Show underway, students enrolled in an agriculture course can raise a livestock project to exhibit. To participate, students must complete the required form and attend an informational Future Farmers of America (FFA) meeting on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the CTE Center.
“Livestock showing is where you prepare an animal to either be a good breeding animal or a good meat animal,” sophomore and Secretary of FFA Anna Young said. “I am planning on showing a heifer, which means I’m gonna try to make her look like a good breeding animal and then take her to contest where she will be judged based on certain criteria up against other heifers.”
Junior and FFA reporter Logan Victory believes raising a steer has been a rewarding journey many should get to experience.
I’ve been raising a steer for almost a year now, and I would say that it has been a great experience,” Victory said. “I have really enjoyed the time of getting to raise a “farm animal” in such a big city. I think that anyone instead in agriculture or farming should consider attending the meeting about raising a steer or heifer. It’s not only an opportunity to gain knowledge but also make life-long friendships.”
