Looking for a win after the Heritage Coyotes (9-0) snapped their four-game winning streak, the boys’ basketball team (5-4) hits the road to compete against the Independence Knights (4-5) Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
“Our biggest challenge will always be ourselves,” assistant coach Robert Wilson said. “If we’re unable to maintain our tenacity on the defensive end or start to play outside our strengths on offense, then we can just as easily lose to anyone in our district. We know our backs are against the wall in terms of the playoff picture, so we have to go into each game fighting to be at our best.”
With this in mind, players such as freshman Alex Aluga are focusing on both correcting individual mistakes as well as finding ways to improve against their opponents.
“Basketball, especially at the varsity level, is very fast-paced,” Aluga said. “So the hard part for us is executing our game plans quickly against our opponent but also being effective with how we do it so we don’t make too many mistakes.”
