Red Rhythm dancers competed against schools from throughout the area at Independence High School in the “Crowd Pleasers Dance” competition, where the team won Military as their highest scoring dance and Hip Hop as their second.
“I thought for a first contest they did amazing; they competed [in] three team routines, three officer routines, two ensembles, and lots of solos,” Red Rhythm assistant Director Sydney Mooty said. “They worked hard together, they had a fun day, and I think that will prepare them even more for their upcoming contest this weekend.”
For captain, junior Mason Classe, winning seventh place runner up on her junior solo performance was a highlight of the competition, as well as an unforgettable experience.
“It’s a very cool experience getting to stand up with so many other beautiful dancers who are all so talented,” Classe said. “In a category with between forty [to] fifty-nine dancers, it’s a very gratifying feeling to be chosen.”
With all 31 members of Red Rhythm competing in team dances, ensembles, as well as solos, the team took every chance to celebrate their accomplishments.
“Coming back into the locker room after each performance cheering one another on and hyping each other up is such an amazing thing to be a part of,” Classe said. “We all celebrate the wins with one another, no matter how small, and that’s what makes a contest successful to me.”
To historian officer Tanvi Jain, the contest season isn’t just about perfecting routines but also building closer bonds with the team.
“The team worked super hard for the last couple months and we have been really focused on cleaning our dances and showcasing our team best for these two contests,” Jain said. “Apart from the dancing contest, it’s such a fun day where the team gets super close as well and it’s honestly such a unique experience!”
