The 11-5A softball season tipped off Wednesday night when the Redhawks (1-0) welcomed Frisco (0-1) to The Nest and walked away with a 9-3 win over the Raccoons.
“Great job by our pitchers and everyone involved just grinding out a win, I am very proud of them,” assistant coach Evan Boullt said. “A strong mentality and going out being prepared. Also having a great mind set, and going out there and executing. If they continue doing those things, good things are going to happen for the Redhawks.”
Starting off district play with a win, the Redhawks started off a bit rough, but for freshman Greer Schurr, the team improved over the course of the game.
“The first inning we didn’t underestimate them, we weren’t locked in and we were down,” Schurr said. “But in the 3rd or 4th inning we started stepping up our game and our defense was getting better as well throughout the game. Even when they switched their pitchers we picked up the ball real quick and we were hitting well.”
