As the Redhawks track team progresses through the season, the competition is escalating at the Wylie Pirate Invitational Saturday at Wylie ISD Stadium.
“We got the second meet of the season, like a full meet,” girls head coach Khera Vay said. “Should be really nice weather, have the majority of our girls out, should have some good competition with the teams that are there, and I kind of put together maybe like 70ish percent of what we would put together at district. Girls have been working hard all week and have had good opportunities to work on their speciality.”
The athletes have been working hard and constantly improving each week according to boys head coach Robert Thayer.
“Our boys have been setting personal records even at practice,” Thayer said. “So they are definitely in that track season mindset and are ready to go all out this year.”
Although weather disrupted the start of the season and led to the cancellation of at least one meet, freshman Bryson Fant is excited for what’s to come.
“It feels really good to be in a good track program and feel myself improving with each practice,” Fant said. “I can’t wait for the rest of the season.”
