The Red Rhythm contest season is in full swing, but team hopefuls are preparing for tryouts in early April with prep classes, including one Thursday after school.
Although many dancers are already enrolled in Dance 1, 2, or 3 classes, the prep classes will help them prepare for skills specific to the tryout material.
“We’ll be working on kick and flexibility, turns, leaps, and even towards the end, you’ll get to learn part of the military routine,” assistant Red Rhythm director Sydney Mooty said. “This is an amazing way to get to know people, make it community, and kind of see what to expect at tryouts, and also help you prepare for the technique that’s included.”
Although dance classes teach skills and knowledge about the subject, the prep classes are designed to help students decide the route they would like to go about trying out.
“The Red Rhythm prep classes are a great way for people to come and see what we do on Red Rhythm if they’re interested in trying out for the following year,” first lieutenant, senior Sheen Saxena said. “So this Thursday, I’m leading a flexibility and high kick workshop, so we’re gonna really stretch, you know, hit our splits, and then kind of, wrap out some kicks so people can come and see if Red Rhythm is what they wanna do.”
