Wingspan: When and why did you start playing the harp?
Wu: “I started playing harp in 6th grade and I got chosen after trying out for it. I started playing the harp since I had played the piano when I was younger.”
Wingspan: What is the most challenging part about playing the harp?
Wu: “The most challenging part about the harp is probably the technique and staying on rhythm, but I enjoy playing with the whole orchestra and bonding with the other harpist. I also love my harp teacher and directors.”
Wingspan: Who or what inspired you to start playing?
Wu: “I was inspired by how beautiful the harp sounds and how pretty the instrument looks. I also had some friends in the program as well that inspired me.”
Wingspan: What is a piece of advice you would give someone interested in learning the harp?
Wu: “My piece of advice I would give someone interested in learning the harp would be to just practice, and they will get the hang of it. It may be time consuming but it is worth it!”
Wingspan: Do you intend to play the harp beyond high school?
Wu: “I would love to keep playing the harp after high school, it’s such a pretty instrument to play and it would be so amazing to keep playing when I’m older as it’s not a common instrument.”
