The Redhawks track team competed in the District 11-5A meet at Little Elm Stadium on Monday with more than a dozen athletes advancing to the Area meet on Thursday in Carrollton, and the girls team winning the district championship.
“Winning districts was pretty awesome, especially with this group of girls,” girls coach Khera Vay said. “We went and got the win and we can’t wait for regionals.”
The boys didn’t win the district championship, but several athletes took a big step towards state.
“The guys that qualified definitely deserve it after all their hard work and dedication throughout the season,” boys coach Robert Thayer said. “It feels good knowing that some of our athletes will probably make it to state.”
The athletes who advanced are participating in events such as the 800m relay, 400m dash, 1600m relay, 3200m run, long jump, triple jump, pole vault, high jump, and the 100m hurdles.
“To make regionals, we have a better sprint team then others in the region, but we may be outshined by other distance teams,” Vay said. “But overall, we have a pretty high chance of placing high.”
