Approaching the end of the year, band members were presented with new uniforms to be worn for the upcoming marching season. Every eight to ten years, each school gets a uniform refresh, and this year it’s the Redhawks turn.
Band director Ana Hinojosa-Santi hopes that the new uniforms represent the program’s next phase, while still honoring the past.
“I wanted them to still represent and look like Liberty, but in a more contemporary way,” Hinojosa-Santi said. “It is a perfect way of combining old and new. We have new leadership, new uniforms, and starting new traditions. It has been a refresh for our program!”
The new uniforms, which will be for everyone in the band, are a new take on the old.
“The red part is still the same pattern as our old uniforms, but the black and grey side offers a more classy approach,” junior percussionist Srishti Shetti said. “The cape at the back is similar to the Phantom Regiment, which is like a professional marching band.”
With changes within the program, such as the new band director, the new uniforms could help to further unify the band.
“The uniforms are kind of resemblant of this new leaf that we as a band program are turning,” Shetti said. “I think they will definitely encourage us to be more cohesive because the uniforms show off our uniformity as a band.”
