Girls’ cross country placed first and the boys’ placed second in the Flower Mound Invitational meet Saturday; the second straight win for the girls and the first top three finish for the boys.

“I think [winning] was actually a really big accomplishment,” race winner Carrie Fish said. “Because it’s showing how all of our hard work and dedication to cross country over the summer and throughout the school year is paying off”

Although the girls are in District 13-5A, they competed in 6A on Saturday.

“I was a lot more challenging,” Fish said. “It’s a good challenge because then once we get down to 5A it should be a little bit easier.”

The girls’ have been performing well, but the toughest tests are still to come.

“I hope we can all stay healthy and push through the season and go to state,” Fish said. “The Jesuit meet which is coming up in two weeks is going to be our hardest because I feel like all of the top teams are going to be there and they’re all going to be running their top girls so it’s going to be a really high competition for u as a team and individually.”

The boys’ placed second in 5A this weekend, with freshman Luke Small competing with the varsity team.

“Sometimes it’s hard because I’m younger than everyone,” Small said. “It’s a bunch of like seniors and me, so a lot of people are faster than me. I just try my best in practice to stay with them.”

The boys’ also have high hopes for the rest of the season.

“If we can all just keep getting our times down a little more,” Small said. “We’ll probably go to regionals and the hopefully state.”
