Review: Mellow Mushroom
October 3, 2016
While strolling along in the crowded streets of OktoberFest in nearby McKinney, it’s hard to miss an interesting place called Mellow Mushroom. Just from looking through the window, customers can tell this place is worth checking out.
As soon as diners walk in, it’s a trip back in time as peace signs, bottle caps, records, green lights and colorful drawings line the walls with feel good 90’s music playing.
Although it may known for its pizza, Mellow Mushroom features a variety of appetizers, salads, pizzas, burgers and hoagies. And for those that follow certain diets, there are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options.
But when it comes to Mellow Mushroom, it’s hard not to go with pizza. On the restaurant’s Yelp page, there were a lot of comments about people were talking about the Holy Shiitake Pizza and how great the crust is. And it didn’t disappoint. The pizzas are delicious and very filling.
In addition to three pizzas and salad, something called Muffuletta Cheese Bread was ordered. While it didn’t look anything like an actual muffuletta, it got a “wow” from many at the table nonetheless.
Be warned however, there’s one thing potential diners should know about this place: it’s expensive, with a large pizza at 27$. And for pizza, that’s way too much money compared to a place like Angelo and Vitos. The pizzas, salad and cheese break resulted in a $120 ticket.
Mellow Mushroom is a good pizza that hits the spot, but it it’s too expensive. With the prices what they are, a visit would be better for a date or a small group of people, rather than a family of 6.
Mellow Mushroom is a good place to try, just be careful when you order as you may be paying more than anticipated.
