After coming off a close game and barely falling short to Reedy High School in the team’s season opening game, the football team traveled to Greenville on Friday and earned their first win of the season, giving the team a 1-1 record, just one season after going 1-9.

I really think that our Thursday practice was the key to how we played on Friday,” head coach Matt Swinena said. “Our Wednesday practice was not very good but the team responded to our challenges extremely well on Thursday and we had maybe our best practice in years.”

Leading the way once again for the Redhawks offense was sophomore quarterback Keldric Luster. Passing for 313 yards, and rushing for 106 more, Luster also had his hand in four touchdowns, giving him eight in two games.

“We added a few more plays to get our playmakers the ball a little more so that made a huge difference in Friday’s game,” Luster said.

In his first year on varsity, Luster doesn’t let the pressure get to him.

“It’s a lot but I’m not worried at all because I have been working all summer so I’m confident in my game,” Luster said. “My upperclassman teammates are a huge help as they already know the speed of the varsity level. They inform me a lot to always be prepared.”
