Although the internet touches almost all aspects of daily life, there are dangers that come with it.

October was National Cyber Security Awareness Month but it’s never too late to raise awareness on the dangers of cyber attacks.

Cyber security awareness is designed to protect against cybercrimes.

Among the safety precautions is to make sure your online passwords are eight or more characters that include combinations of letters, symbols, and numbers.

Another tip is to keep away from using private identity information such as your address or birthdate and to change passwords every six months.

“Students are bombarded by so many things and they live their lives online, especially those that are trying to go to college,” campus digital learning coach Trista Hennebry said. “People look at that stuff, college admissions officers look at that. Even adults have issues being good online so I think it just makes you more of a responsible citizen. I think kids these days have more to worry about and the more they know, the safer they’ll be and the more successful they’ll be.”
